ACWL – The Driving Force Behind White Lake’s Art SceneAspects of the Arts Council of White Lake are visible throughout the White Lake area. Anyone driving or walking through Whitehall and Montague will see art featured by local artists, more than likely put there by the council. The primary feature is the Art Walk, a collection of sculptures found along the bicycle trail that is expected to grow to 25 sculptures by 2010. In addition, there is the Nuveen Art Education Center, which offers classes, workshops and more for budding artists of all ages; the White River Gallery, a prominent display place for exhibits by local artists; the newly formed White Lake Chamber Music Society; and numerous shows and special events the council sponsors each year. To get a taste of the White Lake area’s art scene or find out what art-related events are coming up, contact the Arts Council of White Lake at 231-893-2524 or visit their Web site at www.artscouncilofwhitelake.org. Special thanks to the Arts Council of White Lake for providing the cover art for the Summer 2007 edition of The West Michigan Shoreline Guide. The painting featured is Wave Dance by local artist Linda Foley. It is a watercolor that Foley created during a string of 90-degree days in the summer of 2006. That painting, along with others by Foley, are currently on display at the White River Gallery. |
