Fresh, Delicious, Satisfying Home Cooking in a Friendly Atmosphere

We were a hungry crew of three looking for some good food and a great atmosphere after a morning of hard work in the Saugatuck-Douglas area. We decided on the Kalico Kitchen Restaurant for a late lunch, chosen because of its great reputation among local businesspeople and ideal location on Ferry Street (aka Blue Star Highway).

The Kalico Kitchen turned out to be a great place for lunch. The staff was friendly, greeting us as we walked in, and finding a table was easy. Our waitress greeted us warmly before taking drink orders – two iced teas and lemonade. The iced teas were fresh brewed, and tasted like it. The lemonade was also very refreshing.

Two of our party ordered the patty melt burger, and the third ordered the club “sandwhich.” All food was delivered quickly and tasted good. It was very obvious that everything was freshly made in the kitchen, from the juicy burgers to the hot French fries. After one bite into the patty melt, you could tell the beef came directly from the restaurant’s on-site meat market. It completely melted in your mouth.

The club sandwich was full of right-out-of-the-deli ham, freshly sliced lettuce and tomato and perfectly crispy bacon.

Each sandwich came with a generous portion of French fries and a pickle. It was more than enough for a delicious, satisfying lunch. The meals were reasonably priced: $8.95 for the club sandwhich and $6.95 each for the patty melts.

Unfortunately, we were too full to enjoy any of the Kalico Kitchen’s fresh baked goods or other desserts.

All in all, the Kalico Kitchen lived up to its more than 25-year reputation for delicious, home-cooked food and fast, friendly service. Prices are reasonable – good to fit any budget – and the portion size is generous. The fresh food is worth every penny.

This is a definite place to stop for anyone looking for a good meal in a location not too far away, or people traveling down the Blue Star Highway.

The Kalico Kitchen is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week, all year round. It also features a meat market, deli and bakery, so visitors can take some freshly-made goods home with them.

It Can Happen!

I think everyone pays attention to information to keep them and their families safe, especially at the holiday season. However, I also believe that we generally think that it won't happen to us. Below is what happened to a West Michigan resident when they went on vacation.

"We were home and 20 minutes away from walking out the door when we noticed smoke escaping from the drawers under our snack bar."
