Activities for Everyone at Every Time of the Year

There is something for everyone in the tri-cities area of Grand Haven, Spring Lake and Ferrysburg. From outdoor activities such as fishing, biking and golf to cultural arts, shopping, dining and more, there are activities for people of all ages and interests taking place throughout the year.

Grand Haven Area Map

Spring and summer life bustles in the tri-cities area, which is home to numerous festivals and craft shows. The highlight of the year is the annual Coast Guard Festival, which celebrates Grand Haven’s status as Coast Guard City, USA.

Further, the tri-cities area boasts some of the best beaches along the Lake Michigan shoreline. These beaches are perfect for sunning or swimming during the warm summer months from June through September. They host some spectacular events, including the annual kite festival and sand sculpture contest. In addition, Grand Haven beaches are famous for "singing" - making squeaks and sounds as people walk along the sand, a phenomenon unique to West Michigan beaches.

When you’re done with the beach, check out the Grand Haven boardwalk, a 2 ½-mile stretch of shops, restaurants, marinas, museums, charter fishing and just plain people-watching. Reaching from downtown Grand Haven to the catwalk and pier at Lake Michigan, the boardwalk is ideal for a brisk walk or a casual stroll.

Those who enjoy the outdoors can’t go wrong with the tri-cities. There are numerous golf courses in the area, with many more just a short drive away. Several fishing charters take off from the Grand Haven boardwalk area daily. Bike paths span northwest Ottawa County, with popular paths running along Lake Michigan on Lakeshore Drive between Grand Haven and Holland and connecting to trails in Spring Lake and Ferrysburg. Public boat launches throughout Spring Lake can take you into picturesque Spring Lake or down the Grand River and into Lake Michigan.

To top it all off, there is some incredible shopping and dining available throughout Grand Haven and Spring Lake. Check out Grand Haven’s Washington St. for some unique shops and restaurants. Beacon St. (also known as US-31) features many well-known chain establishments and some local favorites.

Looking for someplace to stay? Hotels/motels, campgrounds and cottage rentals can be found throughout the area. Check our book or local yellow page listings for details.

Though most activities take place during the warm summer months, most tri-cities shops and restaurants are open year-round, and several outdoor activities take place during the colder months. Warm or cold, there is always something for everyone to do in Grand Haven, Spring Lake and Ferrysburg.

It Can Happen!

I think everyone pays attention to information to keep them and their families safe, especially at the holiday season. However, I also believe that we generally think that it won't happen to us. Below is what happened to a West Michigan resident when they went on vacation.

"We were home and 20 minutes away from walking out the door when we noticed smoke escaping from the drawers under our snack bar."
